WOMEN'S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

Strength, artistry and confidence in motion.

A competitive pathway combining skill, strength and artistry to help gymnasts progress, perform and achieve their goals.

About WAG

Women's Artistic Gymnastics is a competitive pathway for girls who demonstrate the ability, commitment and passion to take their gymnastics further. Athletes develop strength, flexibility, coordination, artistry and confidence while progressing through structured training across vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor.

SCGA's WAG program provides a pathway from developing competitive gymnasts through to advanced athletes, with training hours and competitive expectations increasing as gymnasts progress. Entry into the program is by assessment and invitation, allowing coaches to place each gymnast in the squad best suited to their current ability and development. SCGA's published pathway extends to Level 10+.

Who is WAG for?

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics is ideal for girls who enjoy combining powerful gymnastics with precision, creativity and performance. WAG particularly suits gymnasts who love perfecting details, learning choreographed routines and expressing their individual style while performing. With a unique combination of explosive vaulting, dynamic bar work, precision on beam and expressive floor routines, WAG offers athletes the opportunity to develop into confident and well-rounded performers.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SCGA training uniform is highly encouraged for regular WAG training but is not compulsory, with comfortable, fitted activewear also acceptable. The official SCGA competition uniform must be purchased and worn at competitions, events and other nominated occasions. Gymnasts should bring a labelled drink bottle to every session, tie long hair securely away from their face, and bring any additional training equipment requested by their coach, such as grips, elastics or weights. For longer training sessions, gymnasts may also bring a small energy-building snack to enjoy during an allocated break rather than a full meal.

Does my child need gymnastics experience? Not at all! Many of our programs cater for complete beginners, and our coaches will help each gymnast progress at a level appropriate to their ability. Can we try a class before joining? Yes! A trial is a great way to experience SCGA, meet our coaches and make sure you've found the right program. How do I know which class is right for my child? Our team can help. Tell us your child's age, previous experience and interests, and we'll recommend the most suitable program and level. Can my child change classes as they progress? Yes. Our coaches continually monitor each gymnast's development and can recommend progression into another class or program when they're ready. Can parents watch classes? Parent participation and viewing arrangements vary depending on the program and age group. Our team can let you know what applies to your child's class. Do classes run during school holidays? Our recreational, specialty and competitive programs operate throughout most of the year. Check your program's Weekly Timetable section for details. What happens if we miss a class? Missed-class and make-up arrangements are subject to SCGA's current enrolment and attendance policies. Contact our team if you're unsure what applies to your enrolment. How are fees charged? Fees are based on your child's program and training schedule and are billed monthly according to SCGA's current fee and billing structure.
