A gymnastics competition is an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate the skills and routines they’ve been developing in training. Depending on their program and level, gymnasts may participate in SCGA invitationals, Grand Prix events, regional competitions or championships.
Your child’s coach will help determine which events are appropriate for their program, readiness and eligibility. For WAG Squads and MAG Squads, participation in competitions and events is a requirement for acceptance in to the program, and levels are determined through athlete readiness, testing and event eligibility.

How Competition Entries Work
From Invitation to Competition Day
1. Check your competition information
SCGA will provide relevant event details, including eligibility, entry deadlines and any instructions for your gymnast’s program. Check the event name and date carefully before making plans.

2. Confirm whether your gymnast is attending
Follow the entry instructions provided by your coach or SCGA administration. Some competitions may have automatic entry into eligible events, and some competitions require registration from each attending athlete. Competition arrangements should not be assumed for every SCGA program.

3. Review the competition costs
Competition charges are separate from regular class tuition. Check the event information and SCGA Competition Entry Fee Policy for the applicable entry, coaching, judging and other event-related costs.

4. Look out for the final schedule
Session allocations and detailed running times may be confirmed closer to the event. Your final event information should identify when to arrive, when warm-ups begin and the approximate competition and presentation times.

5. Get ready for the day
Organise your uniform, pack your gymnast’s essentials and confirm the venue and travel arrangements. If you’re unsure about anything, contact your coach before competition day.

What Am I Paying For?
Competition fees are separate from your regular SCGA tuition and may include more than the host organisation’s athlete entry charge.
The applicable costs depend on the competition and the arrangements required for SCGA athletes to attend.
Athlete Entry Fees
The fee charged for entering your gymnast into the competition, as specified in the relevant event information.
Coach Fees
Costs associated with SCGA coaches attending competitions to support and supervise participating athletes.
Judge Fees
Applicable costs associated with meeting competition judging requirements.
Other Event-Related Costs
Depending on the event, additional costs may relate to staff travel, meals or other arrangements outlined in the competition fee information.

What to Expect on Competition Day
Arriving at the Venue
Allow plenty of time to find parking, locate the entrance and get your gymnast checked in. The event schedule will specify your check-in time, which may be earlier than the warm-up and competition start times.
Warm-Up
Gymnasts will prepare for their routines during the scheduled warm-up period. Follow your coach’s instructions about where and when your child needs to be ready.
Competition
Athletes perform their routines or required skills according to their competition division and level. Your gymnast’s coach will guide them through the competition process.
Awards & Presentations
Some events conclude with an awards ceremony or presentation. Award formats vary, so check the event information before making assumptions about medals, ribbons, certificates or presentation times.
Heading Home
Make sure you understand your coach’s instructions for collecting your child and whether they are expected to remain for presentations. Allow extra time in your plans in case the event runs later than anticipated.
Competition Uniforms & Presentation
Look the Part, Feel Prepared
Competition uniform requirements vary by program. Check your gymnast’s squad handbook or event instructions well in advance, particularly if you need to order an official uniform or additional accessories.
GFA Comp Uniforms
Gymnastics for All athletes competing in GFA events wear the designated Power uniform for girls and the Forces uniform for boys. These uniforms give athletes a consistent, competition-ready look while representing SCGA at events. Check your event information for any additional presentation or accessory requirements.
Specialty Comp Uniforms
Athletes competing in Trampoline & Tumble, Team or FreeG may have discipline-specific competition uniforms designed to suit their event and performance requirements. Your coach or squad information will confirm the correct uniform and any additional items required for competition.
WAG Comp Uniforms
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics athletes from Level 3 and above wear the designated WAG squad competition uniform. Athletes should also follow their squad’s requirements for hair, presentation and accessories so they arrive competition-ready and looking consistent as a team.
MAG Comp Uniforms
Men’s Artistic Gymnastics athletes across all squad levels wear the designated MAG competition uniform. Required pieces may vary depending on the apparatus or competition, so families should refer to their squad handbook or coach’s instructions when preparing for an event.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is my child ready to compete?
Your coach will assess your gymnast’s readiness and advise which events and levels are appropriate. Eligibility and requirements depend on the program and competition.
Do I need to enter my child myself?
Entry arrangements vary by program. Check your own program’s instructions before assuming this applies to your child.
Are competition fees included in tuition?
No. Competition participation is charged separately from regular class tuition. Review your event information and SCGA’s Competition Entry Fee Policy for the applicable charges.
What time should we arrive?
Arrive by the check-in time listed in your final event schedule, allowing extra time for parking and finding the venue. Check-in, warm-up and competition start times are not necessarily the same.
What if the competition schedule changes?
Session times may change, or sessions may be combined. Check SCGA’s latest event communications before travelling.
Can I watch my child compete?
Spectator access, seating and admission arrangements vary by event and venue. For all current SCGA events, spectator entry is free. Check the event-specific information for details.
Can I take photos or videos?
Read the applicable event photography policy first. Rules may vary, and families should follow all event instructions regarding photographing or filming athletes.
What if my child becomes sick or cannot attend?
Contact SCGA as soon as possible. Entry withdrawal and refund arrangements depend on the applicable event conditions and competition fee policy; do not assume that a missed competition automatically qualifies for a refund.
